We are fortunate to be starting at the foot of one of the most famous natural landmarks in Africa Table Mountain, basks in the warm light of dawn with the amber glow of the early morning sun slanting through tall trees and bushes, . The first section of our ride takes us on a short but exciting 25km of mixed track conditions along the face of the mountain and through the Constantia valley.
The ride to Tokai forest take us across the exclusive suburb of Constantia all the way to the foot of the Constantiaberg. Then the moderate incline of the trail soon becomes a steep climb through sections of pines plantations before getting into the Silvermine Nature Reserve, home to more than 900 species of mountain fynbos, some found nowhere else in the world. Although track conditions are reasonable, you might have to negotiate the odd section of rocky gravel.
The wide open spaces allow you to take in views of the Cape Flats, False Bay and Cape Point before crossing over to the west side of the peninsula, onto the scenic coastal road of Chapman's and all the way to Cape Town.
